Gruppen mot Dødsstraff og Tortur Amnesty Student Bergen presenterer i anledning Menneskerettighetsuken 2011: Focus: torture

What happens to a human being when being tortured?
How is rehabilitation possible, and what can be done to prevent torture in the future?

Dr. Joost den Otter is clinical director of IRCT (International Rehabilitaton Council for Torture Victims) in Denmark, an organization that supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and the prevention of torture worldwide. He is also editor in chief of Torture Journal. Dr. den Otten has been working with treatment of torture victims for many years, and will share of his experience, and tell us about the work that IRCT is doing.

Dina Yafasova is a writer and journalist from Uzbekistan, now living in Denmark. She will talk about her own experiences with and investigation of torture.
The lectures will be given in english, and will be open to questions and discussion towards the end.
